A Question...

A few months ago I was visiting churches and one church asked me this quetion. “What has made it difficult to serve them as a missionary from other culture?" It took me while to answer the question. Following is my answer...

I thought the big difficulty was the illogical life style of the local people.  However, the real difficulty to serve Aborigines was “ME” – my unawareness of my bias views and racism were the main issues.  Yes, you heard me correctly. “Bias views and Racism”. I thought I wasn’t bias and racist but I am.  I have sinful nature of wanting to be like God and judge other’s with my self-righteous views and tell them what is right and wrong… Knowingly or unknowingly I judged others and their motives without fully understanding others. I constantly guessed and assumed.  Perhaps my arrogance of “I am better than them” and man’s mentality of “got to fix it” attitude. My unexplained expectations are making my work more difficult.  They did not need someone to fix their problems.  They wanted someone to respect them as a person and be willing to listen without judgment.  They want someone to journey with them.
